About this Blog

In 1893 I. Zangwill’s story ‘The Memory Clearing House’ was published in The Idler, a magazine for people with too much time on their hands. It was the first interesting thing that I, a person with too much time on my hands, found after beginning what I assume will be an exciting journey through the world of Science Fiction in the Periodicals of the Late Victorian/Edwardian age. This blog will provide some level of commentary upon my adventures, and will also be, as Zangwill’s title so usefully suggests, a public dumping ground for the ideas I accumulate along the way.

I am a first year PhD student at King’s College London. I completed an M.St at the University of Oxford in 2008, and a BA at the University of Exeter in 2007. My theses were on detective fiction as a form of modernity and science fiction’s imperial origins, respectively.
